Thread: Double quote key not working

i not able type double quote in editor. if press shift+double quote key twice , strange looking character displayed given within parenthesis (¨). annoying. please help.

ubuntu version info,
$ lsb_release -a

i guess checked keyboard layout , assigned shortcuts may have?

example
north american keyboard , qwerty uk have " , @ in opposite locations"
uk " being on top number row @ 2. has @ there

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
