Thread: Dual monitors, where to begin?

i'd configure pc run 2 monitors. i've never done before took me while understand computer has 1 graphics card. after reading apparently it's possible hook second graphics card instead of trashing original card 1 dual output.

after looking around can't find if possible me in particular, though. "graphics gallium 0.4 on ati rv370" tells me have ati rv370. previous logic assume can buy ati rv370 , hook up.

wrong, or right? , if right, how hook second card?

many ati cards use core (ati rv370) have 2 sockets 1 dvi & 1 vga (google differences) if case may need correct cables/adapter second connector active.

if card has 1 connector may need getting second card pose further problems in mobo may support 1 gfx card @ time, mobo may have 1 socket (pciex16) & numerous other issue may hamper you.

once have both monitors active install proprietry drivers (via jockey or website) & use config tool provided drivers both monitors configured use in xorg.

summerise

1) @ have & supports
2) either purchase second cable/adapter or card if needed
3) connect both monitors & install relevant driver
4) configure xorg via driver config utility
