Thread: Hard Drive Failure Email Alerts

i surprised find google did not return answer on simple question like: "linux hard drive failure email alerts" or "ubuntu alerts hard drive failure."

sure, gave me stuff non-raid setups. got info on setting alerts in webmin, need email alerts drives failing before totally fail, physical raid controller in server, etc. (also running lvm if matters).

did find this:

mcelog seems straight-forward , easy. also, i've done stuff snmp traps before too.

question: have other solutions? "headless" server, webmin on it.

want email when drive starts flaking before totally flakes.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
