Thread: Optimizing Intel SB CPU & Radeon GPU

hello there everybody! appreciate advice if @ possible. current situation follows:

new build has these specs:

-gigabyte ga-z68x-ud3h-b3 mobo w/ f10 bios
-unlocked intel core i5 2500k processor
-xfx hd 6870 dual fan video card (w/ "eyefinity" or whatever it's called)
-16gb 1600 mhz corsair ram (the black vengeance 4 * 4gb pack)
-120gb corsair force 3 ssd

, don't think rest quite matters. in event, great build , got lot of parts @ bargain prices @ less ~$800 everything.

have few issues optimizing performance. installed 64 bit ubuntu 11.04 other day , can't seem running smoothly. there minor imperfections, , real nice if weren't there. read / write speeds fast. os seems recognize usb 3,0 ports mono has. ethernet recognized oob.

problem gui crap have learned love. i'm not big on it, os , feel nice. use ubuntu classic workspace, when doing things such switching workspaces minimizing windows (with no programs ever, nautilus) looks quite laggy , slow. i've tried using video drivers ubuntu suggests , other drivers got amd radeon site. appreciated. it's frustrating since bit of programming in java , little animation crap should run smoothly without gpu lag out.

please , thank you.

edit: looks got bit ahead of myself. ethernet/lan doesn't seem work consistently.

here lspci output:

solved:
purge removed proprietary driver, installed open source drivers, reboot, perfection

thats interesting. running unity (i guess talking unity, right?) on rather crappy ati radeon 4550 passively cooled graphics card , open source drivers without problem. smooth, no lags or artefacts. graphics card tops mine far, should far better.
sure graphics card problem, or else running in background. may due strange sort of hardware incompatibility.
