Thread: Programs loading slowly

on netbook (acer aspire 1 532h), have both ubuntu 11.10 partition , crunchbang (debian derivative) partition. on crunchbang partition, run awesome window manager, , programs load fast. first time launch chromium-browser, have wait couple of seconds, next few times working on , fire chromium, loads instantaneously.

on ubuntu (with preload running) however, after chromium has been launched couple of times, still takes 5 seconds load browser, average system load close 0 , no other programs open. opening terminal takes 2 seconds.

amount of ram used in ubuntu bit higher, still uses 236mb out of 991mb, near full when launch chromium.

tried selecting ubuntu 2d sessions menu, gives no noticable performance boost, , "workspace switcher" looks horrible in mode.

difference in loading speed normal, or there wrong ubuntu install?

nothing wrong, newer installs have tendency bit sluggish...it runs on system tho (considering have insane specs can see below...)

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
