Thread: Ubuntu 11.10 wipes grub when it boots

hi, have been coming forum advise while, never needed ask question of questions had been asked , answered, until now.
decided change ubuntu 10.4 ubuntu 11.10 through fresh install. seemed go until tried boot, got message error: symbol 'grub_xputs' not found. live cd reinstalled grub following these directions. success! thought, after reboot worked perfectly. turned pc off, , when tried start again got black (slightly lilac on corners) screen, no message , no hd activity, or seemed. did process of reinstalling grub again , again worked until turned off. looks have reinstall grub everytime , reboot, not practical...does have advise?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
