Thread: virtual machine & Windows XP install issues

hiya,

feel complete dunderhead here. i've installed (and uninstalled) virtualbox many times , tried run/install windows xp. i've been able create virtual machine, whenever try , start , install cd, there's no progression @ , seems freeze, means need force quit. when try again, error.....
failed open session virtual machine windows xp.

device helper structure version has changed.

if have upgraded virtualbox recently, please make sure have terminated vms , upgraded extension packs. if error persists, try re-installing virtualbox. (verr_pdm_devhlpr3_version_mismatch).

result code: ns_error_failure (0x80004005)

or error telling me install dkms (which had done many times) , execute modprobe vboxdrv root.

i've read few threads on here no avail. doing wrong???
i'm running 11.10 (64bit think).

just thought, how long did let go before decided had frozen? when installed xp on machine (host), installation took long time. if you're in vm, take longer. i've put kinds of stuff in vms, , of installations seem hang, succeed if let them go.
