Thread: Wierd errors durring install

if miss information sorry have been trying fix day , still new linux. have dell inspiron 800 128 megs of ram , 800ghz processor ati mobility m4. when tried installing ubuntu , xubuntu (stopped ubuntu , continued xubuntu once realized specs low) got same errors both versions, both 11.10. wierd graphic after (x)ubuntu loading dots, ubuntu have purple screen moving lines , xubuntu small square black , white moving lines. dont know im doing, tried using nomodreset setting , removed quite splash part , long list of text telling me trying do. sorry bout not using correct jargon, dont realy know im doing. in text see 2 error messages, first: failed change mode of /etc/passwd- 600, second load fallback graphics devices [fail]. after these error messages black screen , nothing changes. tried installing xubuntu 10.4 version durring install computer freezes , if same thing above removing quite splash never ending list of: buffer i/o error on device sr0: alternates between sector , logical block errors of varying numbers. im sorry giant wall of text, im totaly confused do, apreciated, thanx in advance, che-

dont know if changes anything, xubuntu after attempted boot of live disc, intead of hitting wierd screen got black screen , hitting fn+f7 (change screen resolution, problem heard linux had ati card) bunch of multicolored lines @ top of screen...lol
