Print to PDF (two PCs, editable text from only one)

thanks if can explain factors might cause this, why workstation prints documents pdf selectable text , laptop doesn't (the pdfs creates seemingly pictures of text). both machines run windows 7 professional , have acrobat standard 9.5 printers. print word documents or web articles firefox. i've tried duplicating browser , acrobat settings between  machines, still url printed pdf on workstation editable document, while same link printed on lenovo thinkpad not. i'm overlooking fundamental. suggestions.

check in acrobat's print settings 'print image' unselected.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
