Thread: Bootable USB Problems

hey all!

i'm brand new here. have used ubuntu in past, , no problems. i've been thinking switching on ubuntu use full time, recent bit of history has pushed me on edge make switch.

acquired laptop running windows xp. belonged step-sister's father , came chalk full viruses. decided wipe , use xp home edition black disk rebuild machine. after trying jump through maze of windows service packs , .net framework versions, got fed , decided switch on over ubuntu good.

followed necessary steps off of main ubuntu website create bootable usb. usb had u3 launch platform promptly removed sandisk u3 remover. used program suggested main site , wrote .iso image usb (f: drive). checking usb drive, labelled "install ubuntu" , has files necessary on it. restarted computer , went boot menu , chose boot usb. screen went dark few seconds, showed little underscore flashing, , went right xp home edition splash screen. ignored on usb! tried again unetbootin, , time, windows decided check drive, , told me there no problems it... proceeded load windows xp again.

fixes this? appreciated.

thanks!
