Thread: "Unison" for peer to peer wireless hookup
i must love punishment, after 15 years of not touching unix, chose install ubuntu on old dell laptop, dual booting windows xp.
i installed on compaq laptop, dual booting windows 7.
trying network them file sharing using unison. since have peer-to-peer wireless lan, ip addresses assigned dynamically, setting /etc/hosts file host name resolution useless, since ip addresses differ every time boot up.
using static ip create collisions when wireless printer or daughter's laptop comes on scene.
said, love punishment, @ point tripping on same issue, no idea how move forward.
know of "wizard-like" tool in such situation?
don't want give scenario because it's great way keep files in synch.

i've never heard of unison, can guarantee don't need share files. way, useful mention version of ubuntu using.
in nautilus file manager, create folder hold shared files. right-click on folder , select "sharing options." click on "share folder," give name , click on "allow others..." , "guest access". might prompted install samba, depending on version using. installation might automatic, start again @ "right click," above.
other computer, in file manager, click on network, double-click on "windows network," workgroup name, computer name, share name. should see list of files. can copy file shared folder.
there 100 versions of these instructions online, have found google.
