Thread: Newbie's day-3 question - gnu emacs

a search emacs in software center generated 2 choices: gnu emacs editor (metapackage) , gnu emacs 23. significant differences between 2 users' perspective?

if both installed, there 2 emacs application (with different names) or rather 1 overwrites other?

(i want understand expect before install.)

found relevant note at:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/88336...kage-and-emacs

went software center , installed gnu emacs editor metapackage) without glitch; opened terminal window , typed:

apt-cache show emacs | grep depends

, got exact same output in terminal.

went dash home , checked installed section , found gnu emacs 23.

in same terminal window, checked installation "man emacs" , "which emacs", both showed proper information.
