after failure upgrade couldn't "system log", "system monitor" or open "terminal" - windows did open, had white background. pc failed reboot, halting @ at busybox terminal.

fortunately running maverick in virtualbox able have go previous saved snapshot. have tried update "update manager" , "synaptic" same result. other recommended upgrades installed.

know how should proceed?

whoa, sounds bug in package. after upgrade, run 'ubuntu-bug libgweather-common' , give developers info gave.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
