best diagram format to place in InDesign
hi all,
i creating few diagrams - circles, lines , text - in photoshop want include in book laying out in indesign (cs6). have tried saving diagram jpg, gif, tiff , pdf (no compromising) , on transparent backgrounds applicable frankly, pretty terrible. in particular, text fuzzy (i have been using garamond, since considered print font) when saved , reviewed in photoshop.
somtimes size of image gets changed well; saves larger.
any clue on doing wrong and/or best file format use? appreciate experience on this. many thanks!

firstly, photoshop not correct program making diagrams in - you're better off using adobe illustrator - or if simple enough can create diagrams directly in indesign.
photoshop raster editing program, in deals pixels. illustrator vector program , allows better image can printed lot sharper.
for photoshop diagrams need resolution of 600 ppi or in excess of depending on output print.
why image fuzzy?
- indesign page layout tool - when place image indesign doesn't place image itself, rather proxy image there purpose of layout. view higher resolution proxy (thumbnail) can go view>display settings>high quality - again still proxy image should show in more detail.
- the image in photoshop might low quality - resolution in photoshop , @ size placing image? example, if have 300 ppi 300x300 pixels in size in photoshop , place in indesign @ 300% it's original size 72 ppi - isn't great print reproduction.
correct format photoshop?
- pdf best use when saving photoshop diagrams - can contain vector information relies on using
- vector shapess in photoshop
- vector masks in photoshop
- retaining text layers text , not rasterising them
you can save file pdf , sure tick retain photoshop editing capabilities.
but warned if have black text , black lines, depending on setup may force thin black lines 4 colour blacks might make difficult printing press (litho or flexo etc.) keep in register.
