Does Photoshop always write a scratch file to disk?

i building new computer , have heard that, no matter how ram have, photoshop writes scratch file disk. thus, considering second small ssd drive use scratch , windows page. other people have said if have enough ram, photoshop never uses disk. true?

photoshop creates scratch disk instant create new document or open existing image file. always, no exceptions.

it sets size on calculations makes based on document size, number of layers, history states, etc.

it moves stuff scratch ram (and back) needed.

a dedicated, physically separate drive scratch essential, in personal opinion, always.

the ssd drive great idea, don't make small.  150 gb or more desirable.

i have seen scratch surpass 220 gb on occasion.
