Firewire Output for Video Preview Intermittent

i'm experiencing frustrating problem after effects these days.

 

we're producing video projected, see final output like, i'm doing video previews using firewire output goes directly projector. 

 

it's been working great until yesterday.  working fine until had restart mac.  upon reboot, projector no longer gets video output.

 

i've tried restarting numerous times, checked connections, etc.  got working again after several restarts, after switching on photoshop momentarily, video output once again disappeared.

 

any suggestions on how regain consistent firewire output video previews?

 

 

my setup:

after effects cs6

mac pro

osx version 10.7.5

firewire output of mac's monitor going firewire input on sony media converter

rca video out (composite video) going projector's video input.

 

after effects video preview preferences:

output device:  firewire

output mode: apple firewire ntsc

i'd try resetting devices , rebooting computer. check cables. firewire cables notorious going out.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
