thanks in advance, , apologies if silly question!
separations black.
you're incorrect in expectations.
separations representation of the amount of ink, either 0% or 100%, applied stock (paper). ink printed @ 100%. plate (separation) creates screen or dot pattern in order represent appearance of tonal variation. called halftone. press can not create smooth shade or tint of anything. each droplet of ink either 100% or 0% , nothing in between. varies where ink laid down, not how laid down. ink droplets closer form solid areas. ink drops farther apart create appearance of tints or shades. this representation has no color. range of 0% or 100% ink in cases. black or white.
color comes ink put inkwells of press. shading or tints come various halftones. should never see color separations in color unless have chromakey system... see below.
what seeking chromakey or color key. these systems output each color actual color onto sheet of clear acetate. when acetate sheets overlaid on each other, final build of color can seen. chromakey systems not cheap , not designed average home or office user. special prepress systems.
there nothing automatic home or general user can make separations print in color make-shift chromakey. however, set each plate manually in specificed color, print clear acetate using color printer. again, have to create each color plate yourself, there's no automated method print separations in color without chromakey system.
