Thread: ASUS Laptop Freezing

hey there, got asus g74s laptop. installed ubuntu 11.10 on , crashing once per day. when crashes screen freezes , caps lock button blinks. think called kernel panic. when happens have use physical on/off switch turn off , on.

looking @ forums seems other people have fixed (on different computers) turning off wireless connection , typing:

sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off

terminal (i use wlan1). helps quite bit kernel panics once or twice per week instead of once or twice per day. still big problem me need run c++ simulations take ~week run.

ideas? of specs below. in advance.

p.s. - posted in asus section realized that may not have been appropriate place it. if not cool let me know , won't again.

i7 - 2670qm - 2.2ghz
750gb hd+120gb sshd (my os on 120gb sshd. system doesn't use raid.)
upgraded 2 750gb hds.
16gb of ram - upgraded 12gb.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
