Thread: Question about internet sharing

hi,

i'm in university , in order use network, device must registered it's mac address. computers , games consoles allowed, no switches or routers possible.

question is, when plug laptop network, , share connection on wifi, phone can't access internet. gets ip, no gateway address, happens when plug in new device that's not registered.

however, flatmate has mac, , can share internet us, , can browse no problem.

right in thinking mac somehow disguises wireless traffic appears it's coming 1 device? , ubuntu doesn't this, network sees phone device?

or sharing not working?

you test whether sharing working or not letting registered mac access internet on shared network. if works sharing ok. next step find out if mac special kind of sharing.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
