Thread: Strange computers showing up in /var/log/samba

the title pretty says all. i'm seeing appears on hundred other machines in directory. have same format in file name, such as: log.gregspc. don't know named greg. cat on file , like:

"getpeername failed. error transport endpoint not connected" , "read_fd_with_timeout: client 0.0.0.0 red error = connection reset peer."

computer looking other computers on it's current network (say, public access point) , listing them in log? error seems indicate it's checking public shares , not finding any. correct?

also, more strange, when open thunar , click network icon, see 2 other computers not know: "john-pc" , "owner-pc". see other networked machine, called "main" not appear. have navigate through "windows network" it. spent past couple of nights in motel out of town i'm guessing computer saw 2 machines , made kind of sharing association (!) never did connect them. also, neither of machines show in log directory mentioned above.

know hell going on here?

how connected network when seeing 2 other machines "john-pc" , "owner-pc"? if wireless connection, maybe not own network other?
