Thread: webcam does not turn on

hello,

i've opened cheese, camorama. webcam won't turn on.

camorama gives error message:
"could not connect video device (/dev/video0). please check connection"

went terminal , ran gstreamer-properties. chose video tab. in "default input", plugin "video linux 2 (v4l2), device "usb camera" , pipeline "v4l2src device="dev/video0". clicked test, error message:
"video linux 2 (v4l2): device '/dev/video0' cannot capture @ 640x480".

skype doesn't webcam work.

please help.

i know webcam have go sound settings , select each time on different tabs. have "camera monitor" installed, picks me once sound settings.
might try that.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
