How come 3D layers with the same Z-position don't line up properly?

i have composition several 3d layers enabled.

 

i have 1 layer @ z-position 400.  i'd add additional text on same plane original layer (the same depth) ... create text , adjust z-position 400.  when move camera, clear elements not lined on same plane.

 

through trial , error, i'm able move new text , forth until point passes through original layer, , adjust there ... , end layers pretty darn close, different z-position values.  i'm able use workaround now, bothers me these coordinates aren't behaving way expect.  normal?

 

any thoughts?

are using kind of plugins/effects on text or layer? if so, make sure z positions set 0 well, line up

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
