How do I convert newer DWG files to a working illustrator file?

i tried opening newer dwg file in illustrator , program flat out told me not this. though older dwg (auto cad) files had no problem opening them in illustrator. it's great because not olny opens file, when placed, converts lines working paths.

you can't. in order open newer dwg files, adobe have license relevant code autodesk, since no longer make available free, apparently not willing do....

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
