Thread: Freshly Formatted FAT32 Drive doesn't have enough disk space?

i'm trying revive older pc ubuntu 10.10 install. got old motherboard craigslist (ecs 661fx-m) , post fine , recognize hardware, including hdd in question. i'm trying boot live usb works fine on other machine. bios responds fine , boots usb. try start install , gui tells me there not enough disk space. hdd didn't have os on removed it, put in working machine, reformatted primary bootable fat32 partition gparted, put in old machine. same message.

know live usb should able format drive itself, not given option, or didn't know look. tried "fdisk -l" , got no output. tried use gparted on usb , did not recognize hdd either, usb. i'm thinking since sees usb, thinks trying install on usb, , hence there not enough drive space.

googled brain out , got no leads. please!

many , happy new year!

did notice there pull down menu in upper right corner of gparted select different drive? available in file menu "gparted, devices".

disk utility graphical tool , may installed on live usb.

cfdisk , simple use.

size hdd? why need fat32? why not short primary partition /boot / , extended partition rest, logical partitions /home , /swap

did @ man page fdisk? pay attention dos 6.1 warning , solution.

did try creating new partition table before partitioning disk ?
