Thread: No wireless or wired ethernet on new Acer laptop

hi all,

got new laptop in mail today. acer 7750-6423 ye old walmart.

have been running 10.04 (or 10.10 lynx better) on machines , want lynx on 1 too. problem. laptop has both atheros ar8151 , broadcom bcm43227. no wireless. no wired.

haven't exhaustively searched through posts either device...'cause i'm exhausted. impression neither problem insurmountable itself. question is how pita going to 1 or other working without way connect internet? can suggest path forward isn't complete hunt , peck operation take hours?

i'm willing spend time getting going because machine decent enough , pretty cheap taking wally world option. spending few more bucks plug 'n play isn't terrible option.

care wireless both good. there times when having wired connection thing...like right now.

suggest 11.10, lubuntu, xubuntu, etc. i'm not asking suggestions. solution 10.04 (or 10.10) working.

wired connection not working because in 10.04 driver ethernet port not included has downloaded , installed easier wireless working first.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
