Thread: Weird Problems with extending Desktop over two screens.

i using ubuntu 11.10 64bit unity, ati hd4890 gpu , 2 22' screens @ 1920x1080.

yesterday did fresh install of oneiric , had screens being set mirrors. changed extended desktop, , worked flawlessly. messed around in compiz , had unity crash on me. after rebooting screens no longer extend screen mirror again. settings not allow me change back, saying desired screen size not fit virtual size available of 1920x1920. (i using german language ubuntu, error message wont literal).

unable work again, sighed , did clean install. worked again.
installed driver ubuntu said appropriate. worked , removed lagginess wont allow me extend screen now, same error message in prior install.

using settings menu comes driver doesn't (it crashes when hit apply), deactivating driver doesn't either (just brings lag). if change both resolutions, fit inside 1920x1920 works, running on 800x600 no option me

there way change virtual size 3840x1080 need? there must be, since worked before, mustn't it?

if there more pieces of info or log data might help, tell me, please.

sudo apt-get install fglrx-updates

and did restart. catalyst control center still crashes without changing anything, in ubuntus own screen settings arrange screens , resolutions want.
