How do you ensure LR4 catalog gets updated if files are moved in Win Explorer, et al.

i 2 days new lightroom.  moved files in windows explorer after importing them lr4 , lr4 reported them missing.  there easy (automaticly preferred) way keep lr4 in sync other file organizing software?

no, there no automatic way make happen in lightroom. capability not designed lightroom.

 

the usual advice beginners move photos via drag , drop within lightroom , not use operating system move photos. or better yet, develop workflow organizes using lightroom tools (keywords , other metadata) achieve organization, instead of moving photos here there achieve organization.

 

since mention "other file organizing software", bad idea use multiple organizing software simultaneously, since programs not talk 1 , end result confusion.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
