Thread: can't see Windows shares

i've tried couple different things, can't seem laptop (dual boot win7/ubuntu11.10) see shares on wireless windows network. desktop shared drives dual boot winxp/ubuntu11.10, , have laptop running winxp. windows, set network called home, , shared several drives on winxp/ubuntu machine. winxp laptop can access these drives (regardless of whether desktop booted in winxp or ubuntu), win7/ubuntu laptop can access shared drives in win7, not in ubuntu. @ point i'm pretty switched on ubuntu, wouldn't mind creating new network ubuntu, don't know how this. also, preference keep windows network in place can access things winxp laptop, i'd able access windows network win7/ubuntu laptop while running ubuntu.

wasn't convoluted follow. i've tried editing smb.conf file, changing workgroup home , removing semicolon name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast line (two fixes came across while researching issue). running smbtree gives me error nt_status_unsuccessful 3 machines. appreciated.

no ideas? i'm @ complete loss here. keep getting "failed retrieve share list" when try access windows workgroup network set up. tried using domainjoin-cli, "error: dns_error_bad_packet [code 0x0000251e]".

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
