Thread: detailed ugrade questions

i have machine running 9.10 since dec 09. runs great, still, doing video (over network , streaming) office, browser, stream tuner, music on network. machine specs low: 600 mhz, 500 meg ram , 6 gig hardrive, , sysop feels more @ home in windows , lost in ubuntu. took me 2 days of trying install wireless card (no wired ethernet card); installed gui wireless windows drivers , installed xp driver wireless card working. did sudo apt-get upgrade. said loose 6 megs, lost 300 of 580 megs of free disk space. ran apt clean, got 24 megs, bleach bit 300 megs back. made me weary of competency of upgrade programmers.

still, 10.04 lts available in upgrade manager.

1. 500 megs of space enough?

2. gain?

3. need change repo list ?

4. need reinstall software?

5. loose wireless card?

6. brick machine?

7. there performance hit upgrading?

8. final loss of space after cleanup?

9. how long upgrading take: both in time , bench time?

10. little under specs ubuntu 9.10, runs fine faster , better xubuntu. have other's installed 10.04 on type of system-p3 generation.

with low specs should @ other releases. lubuntu great if run. under 1ghz these days cringe-worthy operating system created in last 5 years.

should personal data , fresh install.

if smaller releases puppy or damn small linux.
