Thread: sshd failing to start up in a VPS environment (Ubuntu Server 64x)
hi,
have issue vps, cannot connect via ssh after rebooting/shutting-down-and-starting machine. recent problem, , hasn't happened before.
message when try connect is:
ssh: connect host <...> port 22: connection refused
power-panel shows no sshd process.
each time open support ticket, fix right away , never root cause of problem (maybe start daemon process manually, don't think it's possible control-panel.)
said it's responsibility manage vps, i'm looking solution. still have access files , can edit them, start/stop vps. suggestions welcome.
edit: here's found more research:
1) /etc/init.d/ssh script exists, but:
2) no symlink /usr/sbin/sshd exists in /etc/rc[0-6].d
there apparently command create symbolic links: 'update-rc.d ssh defaults', don't have ssh access cannot execute it..
in advance,
vic.
you have monit monitor sshd
think its. apt-get install monit
