Thread: Ubuntu Instability with Avahi and Netatalk...
this may more of rant don't expect find solution. seems contrary nature of ubuntu establish , maintain stable environment have lost weeks of life environment. so if not couple of software need run in linux think move windows.
avahi , netatalk have been around years , continue supposedly progress yet cannot stable build them. not entirely true had stable build under 9.04 else in world pushes have install latest , greatest in order things want. along way though stability , usability went out window. find myself having figure out why simple avahi , netatalk stop working. configured , working start fail, restart, or don't run @ all.
have automatic updates turned off on machine yet when come week later there bunch of updates ready install. when have turned off mean told "never" check. reason invariably update break box, avahi , netatalk.
did 1 patch go .14 of kernel , ever since have force reset (hard button on box) grub menu , pick last kernel booting into. joke here that kernel didn't work booting until installed latest one.
new user interface complete disaster too. tried working few weeks , after giving myself concussion implemented old gnome workaround halfway fix.
suppose answer go through logs here disaster. log file @ , line entries mean! there plenty of log files part useless!!! how taking time , interest in actual problem solving tool. start log viewer more glorified editor (it isn't much) , put in tree structures, colour coding of entries, , cross links other log files based on activity @ same time event. importantly links actual solutions.
@ 1 point had thought, when new all, must have screwed install. though have installed many copies of linux (ubuntu , fedora) can't buy that. start own thing , fail work easily.
if had viable replacement mythtv , ability schedule , distribute content gone linux.
