Process version 2010 to 2012 update differences...why?

i retired computer professional , have used lr since v3 first came out , have updated photos process version 2010 pv2012.  used batch process have ~200 gb of photos. batch process follows:

in library module, clicked on > library> select show photos in subfolders. selected develop module, opened folder , selected first photo , manually clicked on ! icon update current process (2012).  added photos in filmstrip selection.  clicked on sync button open synchronize settings dialog , clicked on check none , check marked process version , clicked on synchronize.

i noticed batch process zeroed out settings in develop module basic dialog.  no longer have previous 2010 settings listed photo , in cases looks of images have defaulted unprocessed state (under or overexposed, lack of color saturation).  if  select photo in develop module , go history , select setting prior "synchronize settings"  render pv2010 , click on image ! icon update 1 photo, totally different result.  retain previous settings in basic tab , new lr4 tool settings changed.and history states "update current process (2012)".

1.  why different labeled result in history 2 processes?

2.  why different results achieved in develop module between batch vs manual update processes?

3.  have photos been updated process version 2010 pv2012 using batch process listed above?  far know, did batch process correctly, double checked online prior processing in batch.

4.  can images "batched" pv2010?   change photos have been added since acquiring lr4 in pv2012?  can load last weeks backup pv2010 lr4 catalog, have added new photos since , hassle process them on again.

not happy results of process update due loss of  develop module basic settings , in different results achieved between batch vs manual update processes.  keep old settings not impacted pv2012 change , gone in current catalog.

adobe, bug or feature?

this design. changing photos process 2012 cause photos different. has been discussed in many places. can't answer "why" adobe did this. people delighted process 2012 -- no, not direct conversion no further edits, experiencing, delighted using process 2012 re-edit older photos or edit new photos.

since lightroom non-destructive, can go previous states. can image image (yeah, know) in history panel. or setting process version on 1 photo process 2010 , synchronizing other photos process 2010. or, if have backup of catalog file, it's easy go process 2010 appearance of photos.
