Thread: Botched attempt to upgrade Gutenprint?

hi,

tried upgrade 10.04 lts machine gutenprint 5.2.5 (stock installation) 5.2.7 (built source), printer i'm trying support (epson stylus pro 3880) isn't working.

downloaded gutenprint 5.2.7 , compile/installed source. best can tell went without errors. able detect , install printer, when try print test page, says working, after long period of inactivity message job has failed.

/usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd failed

i'm not sure start looking debug this.

did solve problem? buy 3880, there appear no linux drivers. sent e-mail avasys used develop linux drivers epson. have not yet responded. turned-over stuff epson earlier year. there seems no other information on 'net.

fwiw, linux drivers r3000 available on epson website. work quite well.

called epson tech. support 3880 drivers other day. responded there no linux drivers 3880.

considered using 3800 linux driver, understand not compatible 3880. have tried 3800 driver (pips-3.0-1.src.rpm)?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
