Thread: Firefox CPU usage

hi,

have dual boot 64 bit processor system, ubuntu 11.10 32 bit, 3.0.0-14 pae kernel on 1 partition (using classic fall-back gnome desktop), , windows 64 bit on other. processor i5 - 2.4 ghz 2 cores, 4 gigs of ram. machine dell studio 1558.

checking cpu usage firefox 9.0.1. (both windows , ubuntu firefox installations have exact same extensions installed.)
when open no previous tabs open= windows:10%, ubuntu 20% - , goes 0.
when open gmail.com = windows: 4%, ubuntu 10% - settles down 0.
when sign in = windows: 20%, ubuntu: 60%

upgraded firefox 9 using firefox secure ppa, since firefox 8 laggy too. both versions, when firefox open more hour 5 tabs open, have close browser , open starts getting heavy , unresponsive - no flash content playing.

statistics chrome similar, using more cpu in ubuntu compared in windows.

can shed light on this? can do? pae kernel causing problem? or should using 64 bit ubuntu?

thanks.

bump!!
