when tried install graphics card driver using

apt-get install nvidia-current

says

"the following packages have unmet dependencies:
nvidia-current : depends: dkms not going installed
depends: patch not installable
recommends: nvidia-settings not installable
e: broken packages"

when tried in synaptics package manager says
"you have held broken packages"

pls problem

you seem have corrupt packages. since not familiar package problems, can recommend fresh re-install of ubuntu fix problem.
