after studying acr completely, there points not solve mystery them  ... need helps.

 

my platform windows 7 64-bit ...

 

1. "apply auto tone adjustments" option in preference dialog not same "auto" option on basic tab. when check "apply auto tone adjustments" option, "auto" button on basic tab active , different results when click it.

 

2. there "ignore sidecar .xmp files" in dng file handling section on preferences dialog. photoshop forum, learnt may used read-only dng files writing xmp metadata sidecar .xmp file if option unchecked. but, usage not relevant name of option says ... , there different explanations in photoshop cs6 reference. there other usage option ... information mentioned in official reference document?

 

3. in settings panel, there option called "clear imported settings". function of it? indeed, have never seen active.

 

4. , lastly, mentioned in topic, seems me saturation sliders on camera calibration tab need more testing ... in lightroom, more unnatural results.

#1: far know, apply auto prefs auto adjustment image is rendered when making initial "default" rendering bridge. once full raw image loaded, if full raw data results in different auto analysis, auto button enabled , auto run on full raw data , you'll similar different result. i've seen images come in auto prefs enabled auto button dimmed meaning initial , full res analysis same.

 

#2: if native raw , dng of raw file in same folder, acr use .xmp sidecar file image settings–even if there xmp settings in dng. setting prefs ignore side car files means there no conflict.

 

#3: used when other application has made image settings raw image. principally useful clearing settings raw files touched acr hosted in elements (as far know) because elements acr has small subset of potential acr settings.

 

#4: camera calibration settings designed adjusting sensor calibration sensors color rendering differs sample tested adobe. calibration sliders depreciated because predate dng profiles. thomas ready rip them out (back when dng profiles went in-acr 4.6/5.0) persuaded keep them creative purposes martin evening (and me) because used color fx cross-processing. there little likelihood there changes forthcoming because, well, dng profiles offer superior color calibration rather manual slider adjustment. so, suspect you'll have learn live there now-unless have evidence dng profiles don't provide superior calibration.
