How can I improve the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of my website?

hello,

 

i have pushed website live , looking @ basic website reviews "woorank".  there lot of areas can inprove seo , seem simple enough take care of. many suggestions give require direct input html...and, well, chose muse didn't have deal jazz.  so, following list of items looking improve on website , looking "how to" in adobe muse. have located , read through adobe's "strategies seo" @ http://www.adobekb.com/strategies_for_seo.html#addingtitles still have unanswered questions.

i know muse creates "xml sitemap", not quite understand...because familiar sitemap links typically @ footer of website , serve directory - nice prevent crawlers accessing specific directories , pages , specify sitemap file located. muse doing website's "sitemap"? sitemap accessible people viewing website or crawlers?

 

headings

my website not use html headings (<h1> <h6>) use keywords in headings.  in "page properties"dialog box, under metadata, has "html <head>" box. how input words in this? use html such as: <h1>green roofs</h1><h2>landscape architecture</h2>? separate comma? type in words space inbetween?

 

alternative text images

i have found of images in website have option adding alternative text. right click on photo , "edit image properties..." option add alt. text.  images not have option. why?  hover on image , keep arrow pointer (mouse) still , display "tool tip" such "hero frame", "image frame", "thumbnail", "target", or "trigger". seems on "image frame", "hero image", , "trigger" right click , display option for  "edit image properties...".  whats going on here?

 

blog

i have active blog have menu item , when go page on site, have link goes externally hosted blog.  there way eliminate click having user directed external blog site when clicking "blog" menu tab?  understand particular level in business catalyst has blog engine option.

note can exclude page sitemap.xml prevent crawlers crawling it. don't want this, if have reason setting in page properties dialog.

you can assign heading tags using paragraph styles. more info here:

i'm able set alt text on thumbnail images. sure have thumbnail image selected?

 

you can create placeholder page in plan view, mark page menu options 'include page without hyperlink'. menu contain entry page, no hyperlink. if select menu item, can assign hyperlink hyperlink control in control strip.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
