How to eliminate gray rectangles?

hello everybody,

when erase in photoshop part of drawing, gray rectancles appear. how can eliminate them? in other words: every time erase something, text or drawings, gray rectangles appear. there way erase leaving part white, there can write or draw whatever needed?

by way i'm using mac.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
