Thread: Can't ping from the server 10.04.3 by ip?

i've installed 10.04.3 server , i've added dns package box in beta.
it's not attached production network yet. i've got server attached 16 port netgear switch along laptop that's running xp.

can ping laptop server can't ping server xp. cursor sits there flashing until hit ctrl c.

server can ping localhost returns 127.0.0.1 should, , can ping 172.16.17.254 that's assigned eth0.

i'm pinging ip only.

server ip addy 172.16.17.254, mask 255.255.252.0, gateway 172.16.17.254.
xp ip addy 172.16.17.183, mask 255.255.252.0, gateway 172.16.17.254.

i'm asking if there setting or app apparmor need modify make work? seems when ping xp request sent, reply blocked server.

if need additonal info let me know.

i've got in routing hosed up. put box in production network , can ping server xp laptop.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
