Thread: Runtime identification of virtualized environment

i new linux/ virtual box. writing application supposed run on virtualized env , on standalone linux machines , app supposed different task based on environment .
identify on runtime, if app running on virtualized env (virtual box guest os ubuntu , host os windows) or if app running on standalone linux (ubuntu) machine.
there env / config file within ubuntu os tell me details required.
considered, differentiation based on vboxguestaddition installable can help, guestaddition installation not mandatory on vbox machine.
there alternate way identification.
looking command or unique file tell application running in virtual box or not.
in regard helpful.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
