Thread: Simple way to carry preferences between two machines?

i think talking anyway! mean is, have set 1 of laptops run xubuntu 11.10 , having got twiddles , software right carry on other laptop have sort out. can give me ideas? (and nice simple ones ... not in terminal or shifting things around in home folder ...)

you need copy contents of home folder, including hidden files , folders old machine new one, , put them in /home/user again, same came from.

if have same username on both machines should work out of box, depending on how make move of files, if have different username may need use
code:
sudo chown -r $user:$user /home/$user
to give ownership of files , folders new name.

not give installed packages have added since installation, need install again on new machine, tom save bandwidth can copy packages in /var/cache/apt/archives on old machine new one, use synaptic or apt-get (or software-center, don't use myself) install same packages on old machine.
