system:
hardware: fujitsu nh751
software: ubuntu 11.10 alternate cd, full disc encryption.
put quick:
1. fresh install of ubuntu 11.10 alternate cd, x64-bit (probably dist of 11.10 work).
2. use computer download , burn supergrub2 iso.-image cd/dvd , boot it (or create bootable usb-stick it).
3. select third option: "detect grub .cfg" , boot (press enter 2 times).
4. wait 10 seconds , enter full disc encryption key , press enter, even if screen still black.
5. wait 30 seconds , you'll have 11.10 login menu perfect drivers , hardware acceleration.
6. use software center install gnome shell.
7. enjoy!
installation not "fresh" since installed updates , additional software. not concern solution "nvidia bug" anyhow, since applied before downloading updates , gnome shell (yes, safely).

, way, have not installed "additional drivers" available since think mess system. if done that, or further modifications, should try fresh install , try method.
during install used "guided partitioning" , "full disc encryption lvm".
