How to select pictures to make collection

i can't figure out how select pictures z main collection create collection without clicking each picture.

click on picture 'a'.

 

place pointer on picture 'z'.

 

press shift key , left-click mouse/trackpad/pen/tablet whilst still on picture 'z'.

 

that should it.

 

the thing i'd add drag collections, whether filmstrip or grid view, make sure click on actual image rather surrounding border.

 

if haven't yet created collection, tick box include selected images in create collection dialog box.
