Photoshop CS6 file/new/presets/custom sizes-where kept?

i'm on mac running osx 10.8.3 , lately i've been losing presets when photoshop cs6 crashes or have other unrelated problem. first brushes-i lost palette of brushes had built on years , had drag in old set networked computer. workspacees; same tedious solution. now, after had reinstall os 2 days ago, i've lost custom size presets under file/new/presets/custom. isn't clear these presets reside in system: prefs, app plugins, or settings. stored, , can tell me why these preferences or presets seem more volatile in cs6 previously? or fig newton of imagination?
