Removing an object from a background

hi need help. creating digital mood board homework. need cut out , display items on mood board. when try , remove example couch surroundings works try , move on microsoft works , white background comes back. how keep image of couch comes on , not background!

help it's driving me crazy

i'm no expert,but if understand question correctly cut out couch background , save transparency (png) file.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
