Select some words, change color... and other words elsewhere change too?

intermittent issue i'm having in cs6:

 

i have text block couple of styles in (headings have 1 look, body copy has another). here , there, words on bold. when select bold words , change color of them, other bold words in other paragraph also change color. not bold words... some. behavior unpredictable, exact words changed vary, once starts happen won't stop. when try manually fix other words (hopefully noticed them before client!) , change them black, change reverses color on original words too. not; it's effect two-way , one-way. becomes real logic puzzle sometimes, maddening game every change affects else , can't find combination of actions simple thing want.

 

i haven't noticed happening non-bold text, coincidence.

 

when happens, fix seems to rebuild text scratch in new text box. (copying , re-pasting not seem help—unless possibly paste different document entirely.) obviously, complex styling that's pain, i'd better workaround if knows 1

likely problem stems formatting of styles applying text. perhaps words change using same style while don;t using different style.
