Thread: Compiz maxing out processor
i'm running 11.10 on quad core amd 965 amd 6800 series graphics card , 4 gb ram. after running system while, notice processor fan start crank up. run top find out compiz using 25% of processor (100% of single processor) , not die. tried kill -9 (pidnumber), no effect. tried killall compiz, no effect. tried running both under sudo no effect. killing , restarting lightdm won't kill it. hope reboot entire thing.
suspect video driver may issue, i'm running 1 installed under restricted drivers. there 2 options in there; amd graphics , amd graphics updates. 1 updates not install. not care, i'm tired of hearing fan scream until give , reboot windows.
thanx suggestions.
here how fixed it:
downloaded latest ati driver amd. had search home page menu took me 11.11 version of driver. latest 11.12. removed radeon drivers using synaptic, rebooted (probably unnecessary), removed fglrx drivers using synaptic, rebooted, installed 11.12 version of drivers downloaded earlier either softpedia or amd/ati.
must note after second reboot, 1 after removing fglrx driver, screen flickery, @ console level , difficult follow. after third reboot, 1 after installing 11.12 driver, fine.
