Thread: Deleting Mac OS from my PowerMac
hi.
in last few months i've been using ubuntu (mostly xubuntu) on (upgraded) powermac g4.
despite few , not important limitations regarding software doesn't exist ppc (like google's picasa , googleearth), discovered new computer, can fast , functional without remembering me time it's old computer.
ubuntu works.
discovered wonders of open-source, , that's stupid pay hundreds of dollars or euros proprietary software when have amazing open-source, free software.
find myself each day more against apple's commercial strategy, forcing expensive hardware upgrades updated , letting feel if don't have latest cat not world, , if don't have latest hardware can't have latest cat. if have great computer more recent g5's. apple's g5's!
only, tiny thing keeps me moving mac os (apart sentimental reasons , respect great os) is... omnioutliner, great piece of software no equivalent on linux world.
anyway, found myself not using mac os @ on powermac weeks (even months). use on macbook. , when use on power mac have feeling again, if there red sign telling "hey, come on, give up, computer garbage". still works, has nothing speed , performance , software availability of ubuntu. , feeling of being still in world of leaving creatures ubuntu gives you.
so, thought using 400 gb hd have mac os to:
- install ubuntu (maybe release) or linux distro, using 200 gb (the hd run ubuntu has 160 gb)
- using remaining 200 gb backups
so, ask:
- think safe that?
- how should safely?
- fool or have done same?
if have absoluteley no use on 1 of mac machines can go ahead , delete (you can still use critical applications on other one, no?)
safest way rid of , leave ubuntu behind be:
- pop in live cd
- make fresh install using "use space" option
