Thread: /dev/sdb permissions

hi all,

having bit of trouble getting virtualbox access raw disk. have set up, seems raw disk /dev/sdb keeps reverting normal permissions rather ones have set every couple of minutes.

have used command "chmod 777 /dev/sdb" works short time, errors, , when checking goes this:
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 16 2011-12-30 14:19 sdb

after bit of searching, seems may need setup udev rule, stumped on how this, can advise how setup udev rule keep permissions of device public?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
