hey , hope doing .

1. sure internet connection because working fine on windows os.
2. sure ifconfig command

did

ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx broadcast xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask 255.255.255.0

let me explain.

trying configure eth0 connection of ifconfig , know can make of gui networtk manager wanna terminal ifconfig in action .

@ time if check ifconfig command output set ip address have set in above command , after if check network .....its failed . have tried many times , googled . failed in cases . after restarting pc again things setting default of ip network provider ..which not have set in above command .

want step step process configure network manually .

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
